How to avoid motor burnout?

So how to avoid motor burnout?

1. Always keep the motor clean

The air intake needs to be kept clean at all times when the motor is moving. Dust, water stains, oil stains and other debris are not allowed within at least 3m around the air inlet to prevent them from being sucked into the motor. If dust, oil and water are sucked into the motor, it will form a short-circuit medium, damage the wire insulation, cause a short circuit between turns, increase the current and temperature, and burn the motor. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the motor has sufficient insulation resistance and a good ventilation and cooling environment to keep the motor in a safe and stable state during long-term operation.

2. Work under rated load

The overload operation of the motor is mainly caused by excessive drag load, low voltage or being stuck by the driving machine. When the motor is overloaded, it will cause the motor speed to drop, the current to increase, the temperature to rise, and the winding coil to overheat. If the motor is overloaded for a long time, it will burn out due to the aging failure of the insulation at high temperature, which is the main reason for the motor to burn out. Therefore, when the motor is moving, it is necessary to check whether the transmission device is flexible and reliable, check and adjust the tightness of the transmission belt and the coaxiality of the coupling at any time, and immediately stop the machine to find the cause, and then run it after troubleshooting.

3. Three-phase current needs to be balanced

For a motor, in order to ensure its safe and normal operation, the difference between the average value of any three-phase current and the other two-phase currents should not exceed 10%. If the single-phase current value and the average value of the other two currents exceed the specified limit, it indicates that the motor is faulty, the cause needs to be found out, and the operation can be continued after the fault is eliminated, otherwise the motor will be burned.
